Back in S'toon town.  Have been for awhile, now.  I have been swamped by friends and this lovely thing called sleep.

My Christmas was wonderful, though a tad strange.  Normally, we go to my Aunt Phoebe and Uncle Ron's church for Christmas Eve, then back to their house, but my cousin Erika is stuck in the States. She's living with her fiance there, and she isn't allowed to leave the country for some reason.  She probably shouldn't have done all that terrorism back in the day. So, Uncle Ron, Aunt Phoebe, and Emily went to Chicago for Christmas.  Ours, therefore was quiet, but still lovely. I have waaaaay too many DVDs to watch now.  Among them? The first four series of the new Doctor Who.  We also got a Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which is a game I love.  I was obsessed with it back in the days of Nintendo 64 and was only able to play it at my friend's house.  I suck at it, but it is still awesome.  Today, David, Felix, Catherine, Nolan and I gathered at Nolan's place for a Smash Bros tournament. We were joined by Nolan's younger siblings Alyssa (close friend of Catherine's) and Braden (who is 10) occasionally as well.  Catherine and I consistently lost.  It was awesome. We plan to duel one another at some point.

Ya know, any mention of the word "duel" causes Cat and I to quote Yami.  Loudly.

They should make a Wii Duel Monsters game.  Actually, they probably do.

We also now own all the released volumes of the TokyoPop translation of GetBackers.  I am still upset about that being discontinued.  Even if another publisher does pick it up, I quite enjoy the TokyoPop translation.  They have Ban call Kazuki "Girly McString-string" at one point.  How is that not awesome?  What you have to understand, however, is that I read most of the first 5 volumes online or not at all (since I have seen the anime a million times and it is very faithful to those volumes), so I didn't know what the official translation was like those volumes.  I had read some reviews that complained the official English translation was bad, making Ginji and Ban talk like stereotypical gangsters and is ridiculous.  I never found that, so I thought these reviews were weird. Now that I own the first five volumes (which I have now read - there's a whole other retrieval plot about stealing people's organs! It's great! And you meet Hishiki then, instead during the retrieve-Madoka's-violin arc!) I understand what they meant.  For at LEAST the first four volumes, Ginji and Ban say "bro", "my brother", "brother", "man", and "dude" pretty much every second word.  It's terrible! They ruin the beautiful S-in-Getbackers line!  It normally goes something like this:
Ban: *tries to talk about his traumatizing past involving Himiko and Yamato*
Ginji: "It's okay, Ban-chan.  You don't need to tell me. *talks about how they are friends who will always be there for each other*  You're always telling me that 'GetBackers' is plural.  The 's' means neither one of us is ever alone."
Then they smile at each other, and it is wonderfully bromantic.  The TokyoPop version is more or less the same, except the "s in GetBackers" line goes like thus:
Ginji:  "GetBackers is plural, Dude!  We're a two-man team!"
*facepalm*
Luckily, they drop such ridiculousness pretty quick.  By the Infinity Fortress arc, there is no more gangster talk.  So, I still recommend buying the official translation.

Um....I feel like I should have more to say, but I can't think of anything.  So...um...signing off?  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  And has been having a wonderful holiday!

So I am for some reason being more or less kept away from the computer as much as possible whilst in Shenzhen -- and with any luck, I will be out of the country for about half of January anyway -- and then I will probably be mostly away from Internetable places for February.

I would really like to try my hand at Sasuke in damned again in the new year. :( I have some idea of where I want him to go from here, so ... fresh start for the hopeful win? BUT I DON'T WANT TO DRAG ANYONE DOWN, SO I figured I'd ask on flist before making a failtastic post to the Lounge.

Spent Christmas with aunts I hadn't seen in over a decade, almost genuinely missing home for the first time I can really remember, worried and worrying. The weather was a grey-balmy fifteen above zero all day; we had Hunan cuisine for dinner and drove around the city for a half-hour in the new car my aunt's husband bought to save face without knowing how to drive it.

I am too used to living alone, and I am too used to being able to count on having someone to talk to who is a safe space for it but the interjection of time and space and distance is fashioned of perception and reality. The space is real and the distance is not. Our times are creations of the mind but the mind may match and the time oppose.

This is a city without history. It is a fascination of a sort.

Once my mother bought me several packs of socks and wrapped each pair separately so I could have the happiness of having many gifts to unwrap.

Merry Christmas if you celebrate it. My bad for the emotastic post. .__.U

Two: A Bill to lower the volume on commercials.

I, for one, think it's sad that we can even make such a bill. But there is the side of me that wishes this could be done immediately. I don't mind commercials. I don't pay attention to them half the time anyway. I wander to get a snack. Bathroom break. Talk with my mother, ect. When I do pay attention, it's because they're hilarious. What I don't like is that they are ricockulously loud and when my mother is trying to sleep and it BLASTS out, I more often than not mute the TV. How effective is your commercial if I'm not listening OR watching it? I wish they could have done this electively on their own.

And this made me laugh. On the run and updating Facebook. I don't know how it works in the UK, but... do IP addresses work differently over there? They can't get his general location from that? Or is he going via proxy and stuff? *amused anyway*

I've been reading [oh snap] but nothing from my not forgotten book list XD I saw this book on the shelf and thought, 'Oh, that looks good,' and went to the library to borrow it. I flew through Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk and enjoyed it. It has that same kind of sense of humor than L.K. Hamilton has, but the plot is different, main character is still a chick, but she isn't in denial; thank kami. As soon as I finish these last 15 pages of the second book, I'm going to sleep before these tylenol wear off. 10-6:30 tomorrow is going to SUCK some major donkey balls.

Hey guys. I'm not gonna be around over the next two days, as I'm going to be spending Christmas with my family down in Knutsford. Probably won't be using the internet at all.

So before I head off, I must wish you all a very merry Christmas. I wish I'd had time to make a Christmas special this year, but with retail being as busy as it was, I simply couldn't get chance. But next year will definitely have one.

And then the dream switched over to Artemis and me just sitting there, looking out the window. Remember now, everyone lived by a valley and there was a beach just off the side. There were a bunch of whales beaching themselves so people were trying hard to push them back in the water.

Artemis decided to take the time to take out the Whale Saddles that he had in his room(wtf). I don't know either.

I dreamed a little about paintings and that if you stared at the figures inside the paintings for too long, spirits would come out to disturb the inhabitants of the valley.

Really weird.

re: 10 AUs meme.

I have decided that I must have been crazy for using the "wild west" as a type of AU, because frankly I don't like cowboys and indians and sheriffs things, I don't know enough about the time period to write it comfortably, and I can't fake the language/accent.

It keeps freezing me out every time I attempt another set, and since it's the first prompt it's really hard to keep my momentum.

When I was wondering how to post it on ffnet (with the other naruto ficlets or in an "assortment of 10 AU ficlets" thinger), I thought "hey, I've got this one that's from the Locker Room Therapy universe, shouldn't it go with the other Lockerverse ficlets instead?" (I still don't know how to post THOSE either, make a new file for them or tack them on after the first oneshot? I don't like the idea because of how jarringly different the mood is between the oneshot and the silly ficlets. Hrrrn.)
